Posting #1

Welcome to This American Bedlam. I would like to start this first entry with an apology to the good people at This American Life for so shaming their good name with my shenanigans. As this is really nothing more than another personal blog in a world very much overcrowded with opinions, I very likely could have chosen a better moniker.

The real reason why I am starting this blog is that I, like many other people, spend a great amount of time engaged in the communication of ideas and information. As a faculty member in a Department of Computer Information Systems, and a consultant in computer security and forensics, I am constantly being asked for information on a wide range of subjects, and I believe that through this medium, I can provide a higher impact message to those who seek my input. I have found a number of blogs to be of particular value over the years, and I will try as best I can to emulate them by being thoughtful and refraining from idle opinion-forming as much as possible. My political, social, and educational biases will indeed show themselves, but hopefully will not be so strong as to invalidate the entire effort.

Again, welcome.

This planet has — or rather had — a problem, which was this: most of
the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many
solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were
largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper,
which is odd because on the whole it wasn’t the small green pieces of
    paper that were unhappy.
